Well, let's talk about JB. Jelly Beans? Oh, thanks, that's sweet, but no, not that one. Jack Bauer? That's close. To me, it's Jason Bourne.
The Bourne series
Bourne series is a Hollywood blockbuster movie franchise which consisted of 'The Bourne Identity''The Bourne Supremacy''The Bourne Ultimatum'. Starring Matt Damon. Based on the novels of the same titles, written by Robert Ludlum, but the story was arranged so much and quite different from the original. And recently, the series got a new sequel, that is the film 'Jason Bourne'.
Why So Bourne
I love this series; first, the story has attractive elements — an assassin, a thirty-million-dollar multilingual human weapon, who lost his memory fights alone with the government agency all around the world so as to gain the lost memory and his life. Second, the score fit like a condom — sorry about the indecent figure of speech, but that's because — music by John Powell who also scored 'Face/Off'. The variety of location led to the variety of sound. Last, 'The Bourne Supremacy' was excellent as both an action movie and a sequel. 'The Bourne Identity', the first film of the series, had a fine harmony between story and actions. For instance, a man who has amnesia in the darkness-coming, conspiracy-hiding, melancholic atmosphere of rainy snowy winter John-Powell European places, and a dynamic car-chase on wet streets. The action scenes were rich in variety — CQC, gunfight, car stunt. Then they escalated action scene brilliantly in the sequel 'The Bourne Supremacy'. And Jason Bourne always survives in adverse conditions.
2016 Film
First of all, I must say it was personally a little trouble because I used to call this series "Jason Bourne series" and refer to his name very frequently. Now the name 'Jason Bourne' means more than one thing.
As a fan, it's very hard to say, but the film was not so good. 'Jason Bourne' was released nearly ten years after the last work 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. The script accepted the reality of the present day and tried to show freshness, but it didn't have any particular impacts. There were no particular innovations, no particular escalations. 'Jason Bourne' was more like "The Bourne Ultimatum 1.2". However, the onset of the illness of script was in 'The Bourne Ultimatum'. 'Supremacy' was blessed with story — the death of the lover, survival and revenge — audience could easily sympathise his motives, and the climax of action scene was the climax of the film. 'Ultimatum' also tried to depict Bourne's human side and weapon side, but it didn't carry much conviction. 'Ultimatum' was more like 'Supremacy 1.4'. So the series actually consists of 'Bourne 1''Bourne 2''Bourne 2.4''Bourne 2.6'. It is said that Matt Damon and director Greengrass are a good team, good friends, and they waited for a good script before shooting 'Jason Bourne'. But they haven't even reached 'Bourne 3' yet. Guys, wait...harder! I mean there should be better scripts. I really love this character and film series. If there would be a sequel, I hope it will be literally 'Bourne 5'.
My Visit to Europe
By the way, I had expected my indulgence in the scores of this series during the trip to France for Hans Zimmer Live, however, I couldn't hear the sound. I think that's because it was summer time and I was so concentrated on travelling, experiencing, and adventure. In fact, I never used the headphones on the streets of France. It was surprising to me. I am writing the details of this episode in the upcoming book.
"Get some rest. You look tired." Have a nice weekend.
The wind shines, and I remember everything.
